	Who We Are: The Columbine Gem and Mineral Society is a local organization of people who share interests in rocks and minerals, local travel, local geography and history. The society meets on the second Thursday of each month at the Shavano in Salida, usually followed by refreshments and a program. Some programs are presented by society members, others by people who have specific talents or interests dealing with subjects of interest to society members. Frequent field trips are scheduled, some in conjunction with regular business meetings. Members trade information, rock specimens, experiences and expertise on the where and how of rock hounding. The society is not geared towards professional geologists, but rather for the average person interested in rocks, minerals, gems and geology. The society is a family organization and all family members are welcome to attend. The society is uniquely located in CHAFFEE COUNTY, COLORADO which is one of the most productive geological areas in the world. A total of 127 different minerals have been identified in Chaffee County! If you wish to join, please use our Membership Application Form.

	Meetings are held the second Thursday of every month in the Meeting Room of the Mount Shavano Manor at 525 West 16th (at J street) in Salida, Colorado

	As a not-for-profit organization, Columbine Gem and Mineral Society relies on volunteer labor for various activities - to help with publicity, meeting preparation (refreshments mostly), leading field trips and working at Contin-tail and County Fair activities. If you would like to help, please speak with an officer at any meeting. If you wish to offer other assistance, please contact one of the Society's Officers (listed below) and they will arrange contact with the appropriate committee member.
